John has been Thomson Wilson’s General Manager since 2010. He has compared the task of managing lawyers to herding cats but, notwithstanding this, does a great job of keeping us in line.
John’s responsibilities include practice development, finance, human resources and IT. His boundless energy is invaluable in this broad role, and on any given day he can be found balancing the books, interviewing staff, solving computer issues, organising seminars, and knocking together shelving in the deeds room.
A qualified chartered accountant, John graduated from the University of Waikato and went on to study and work elsewhere in New Zealand and overseas for 15 years before returning to Northland in 1994. John has gained extensive skills from his work in accounting and general management roles in the manufacturing, retail and road transport industries. He has also worked in auditing where he specialised in banking and finance.
Outside work, John could only be described as an “active relaxer”, his main interests being fishing, squash and getting outdoors. John also enjoys supporting his children in their sporting activities, and is doing his best to stay one step ahead of them on the squash court.
