Kim Cohen


Kim represents clients in a wide range of matters. Her main areas of practice are Family Law (particularly Domestic Violence and Parenting disputes but also separation, divorce and Relationship Property disputes); Criminal Law; Youth Advocacy and Employment Law.

Kim joined Thomson Wilson as a new graduate in 1995. She developed an extensive practice in Family and Criminal Litigation and Youth Advocacy before pursuing other interests in art and literature. This included attaining a Fine Arts Degree and a Postgraduate qualification in teaching as well as tutoring in relation to Gifted Education. She returned to Thomson Wilson in 2019.

Otago University Degrees in Law and Arts (English and History), and an Applied Art Degree (Photography and Sculpture) from NorthTec give Kim both a broad knowledge base and life experience. Her history of working with a wide variety of people, means that her practice is marked by empathy and diplomacy. She combines this with a common sense approach; carefully considered strategy; efficiency and well-honed problem-solving skills to achieve quality results for her clients.

Kim is a proud Northlander, having lived in Whangarei since she was a child. She has strong family connections here and loves the picturesque scenery and laid-back lifestyle.
