Anna Patterson
Partner
Anna represents clients in a wide range of disputes, but specialises in family law and particularly separation and divorce, settling property matters and child custody arrangements. Anna also represents clients in matters involving family protection (challenges to wills and related matters).
A highly regarded court lawyer, Anna worked as a Crown Prosecutor for 11 years before joining Thomson Wilson in 2014. She became a partner of the firm in 2016.
Anna has prosecuted over 100 criminal jury trials, conducted appeals, prosecuted recall and parole hearings, and acted for numerous government departments and independent organisations. She has extensive litigation experience in the District Court, High Court, Family and Youth Courts.
Earlier in her career, Anna worked as a Judges’ Research Counsel to the Christchurch, Invercargill and Dunedin District Court Judges. She holds honours degrees in Law and Arts (Sociology) from Waikato and Canterbury Universities.
Anna enjoys helping clients find the best strategy to deal with their legal problem, and appreciates the importance of working closely with her clients to achieve this. She looks for practical (and sometimes creative) solutions to resolve disputes before they escalate. However, when the situation requires it, Anna’s litigation experience means her clients receive strong representation in court.
